Online Event: Strategies for Calm - for families of children with special needs.

Join us for this free online webinar. I will be hosting Sara Zutter (bio below) who will go over a range of simple and effective strategies to help families and caregivers provide social and emotional support and manage mood and emotion during this current “in-the-hometime”. There will also be time provided for Sara to answer your questions. This is the first in a series of online events and activities for families of children with special needs that I and my colleagues will be providing.


 

BIO: Sara Zutter is a Special Education Teacher at the Elementary School PS 172, in Brooklyn, NY. Sara has over 10 years of experience teaching students with various needs and ability levels in a variety of settings. 

Sara began her career teaching international students in Tehran, Iran. After receiving her postgraduate degree from the University Of Illinois Chicago, she taught at Chicago Public Schools and has now taught at PS172 in Brooklyn for five years. 

At Chicago Public School, Sara was a Learning Behavior Specialist, teaching students with special needs in grades K-4, in inclusive and resource settings. After moving to New York City, Sara now teaches in an Inclusive Co-Teaching Classroom as the special educator, serving and teaching 5th grade students with disabilities. 

Outside of the public school system, she provides private education consultation, individualized behavior modification plans, and special education academic support for various families both remotely and in person.

In her free time, Sara enjoys hiking with her husband, Bill, long-distance running, and reading historical fiction books. 

BIO: Tobin Rothlein is an unconventional consultant with a global perspective. His practical and creative approach builds on his career as an artist, educator and leader. Tobin has over two decades of experience directing non-profits, facilitating workshops, and leading projects in over 10 countries. With five years at Lincoln Center Education as a Lead Teaching Artist and full time faculty member, he is fluent in the practice of Aesthetic Education, and embraces a flexible approach to its application.  While at Lincoln Center he trained adult educators, administrators and artists from around the world, and worked with students and educators in grade school to graduate school classrooms of all five NYC boroughs.  His unique contributions to the practice of Aesthetic Education include action research into: the Role of School Counselors and Teaching Artists in Addressing Potential Trauma Triggered by Arts ExperiencesThe Effects of Aesthetic Education and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) on Self-Contained Classrooms and Students with Learning Disabilities; and The Development of Collaboration and Leadership Skills through Aesthetic Education.  Tobin served on the planning committee of the 4th International Teaching Artist Conference (ITAC4) in New York, NY.  Tobin received his MFA from MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) in 2013, and certification in Mandarin Chinese and Chinese Culture from Beijing Language and Culture University (formerly Beijing Language Institute) in 1992.
